Did you miss me?
Just kidding! I am back though after a couple of weeks exploring the wonders through the Mists. Panda haters be damned, but I do love the new zones, and yes, the new race and class.
If you don’t know that Halloween is on its way, you are obviously living in another country, or else quite deprived. But we still love you anyway <3. For the next 3 weeks I’ll be bringing you the best of my tricks and as always the treats! If you’re still playing WoW (and if you are reading this you probably are) it should be noted that Hallows End will be starting this Thursday October 18th in game.
Some things of note for this year’s Hallows End event.. Scarlet Monastery has been updated with the expansion, so I highly suggest going in and doing the Horseman at least once. The item levels will be equivalent of current MoP end game gear. If it matches Brewfest (as I’m sure it will), the level to go in will be 89. The Headless horseman’s mount is now account bound, so if you have more than one toon that is high enough take them in to try to win it. And if you haven’t been in a while, there are some new rewards that can be earned with the trick-or-treat candy like the Feline Familiar (or you can just buy one of mine of the AH $$)
Onward to the first of our Halloween goodies! Are you having a hard time deciding on your costume? Why not go as the original evil playable class, a Warlock! PMF has an awesome papercraft design for a wearable Warlock helm based on the Hood of Malefic. I put this together in relatively short time at work, and I can attest to it being big enough to be wearable… perhaps a little too big in design though.
Some comments before you get crafting though.. the horns do sag on the finished product, I used interlaced drinking straws reinforced with toothpicks taped to the underside to give a little more stability. I would advise you to glue the pieces once you have their locations mapped, it is tight enough that with the double sided tape it does get a few ‘holes’ in it. Also, this is a little difficult as far as wear-ability, there is a liner for the head built into the base, but it shifts very easily because of the weight of the horns, so you may want to think of a way to anchor this with a rubber band or pins or something.
You can find PMF’s post with the download to the pattern here
And here is my completed version, with my little Windrider Cub for reference
Stay tuned, next week will feature a double post, one for a peek at my epic Halloween playlist, and one featuring some of the best Halloween tracks released by the WoW community!!

“As you’re all aware by now, the shattering of Azeroth will drastically and permanently alter the continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. In the wake of Deathwing’s devastation, adventurers will be summoned to embark on new quests from levels 1 to 60 in these transformed territories — and with so much new content to be found on these original two continents, many original quests will no longer be available after the shattering occurs. These quests will automatically be removed from your quest log, while any quests you’ve accepted that still exist in Azeroth will remain in your log.
You may be wondering how the shattering will affect the Loremaster achievements. If you’ve already completed Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms or Loremaster of Kalimdor, you will not lose your achievements. However, if you’ve made progress toward these achievements without yet completing them, be aware that any quests that are removed from the game will no longer count toward your progress, so you may see your achievement quest counter drop. If you’re close to earning either of these achievements, we strongly suggest you finish them with great haste, as Deathwing’s return is imminent.
In addition, the Loremaster achievements are being redesigned slightly to make them easier to track. Rather than having players complete a huge number of quests throughout a single continent, the criteria will change so that you will instead need to complete a set number of quests in each zone. Once you’ve earned the achievements for each listed zone on a continent, you will then be awarded the Loremaster achievement for that continent. For those who do have Loremaster of Kalimdor or Eastern Kingdoms completed already, you can still go back and get the new achievements for questing in individual zones on those continents.
We look forward to giving you an opportunity to take on brand new adventures in these classic zones. The times they are a-changin’.”
If you are working on this, I highly recommend the mod Everyquest. It can ping the server and find the quests you have finished and what you’ve left to do. Its a great tool for finding the zones and quests you still need.
“World of Warcraft turns six on November 23rd, 2010! It’s been a truly incredible six years, and we’d like to thank you all for joining us on this momentous occasion. To celebrate, players that log into the game between the dates of November 30th and December 14th will receive a feat of strength added to their Achievements. We look forward to another great year ahead and many more to come!”
Alas it does not appear that we will be getting new birthday pets this year like the 4th and 5th Anniversaries. Still, Happy Anniversary WoW!!!!!!
Yup, like all things this too has been nerfed…. kinda….
If you have not yet seen the elemental invasion of Thunder Bluff, or Orgrimmar, you should really get out of Dalaran more.
Every 2 hours the major cities will come under fire from the elementals. Thunder Bluff gets attacked by Air and Water, and Orgrimmar is overrun with Fire and Earth. They remain up for 1 hour.
These elementals still count toward Tripping the Rift, but they are not so easy to take down. There are 2 phases to the encounter. The first is the easy elementals. I solo’ed these guys no problem as an 80 shaman in TB. The goal of this phase is to run to the boxes, pick up a totem-looking device, and drop it on the designated arrows. Easy as, though you may have to go searching for the arrows toward the end. Once that’s done phase 2 starts. For TB there were 5 districts that opened rifts, each housing some nasty elite elementals. I was still able to solo, but not without pulling off some tricks every now and then (maelstrom healing = win). Even then, I died 3 times while waiting for the reinforcements from the Org event to come over. We grabbed about 15 of the people from trade/general and from there was able to own it much more easily, and secured the 5 districts. I saw a few people get their Tripping the Rift achievement as we finished.
After the city was secure, 2 rifts opened up. This time as portals though. These lead to special 5-man bosses (you can also cue to them from the LFD tool). Grand Ambassador Flamelash in BRD-Fire, Crown Princess Theradras in Maraudon-Earth, Kai’ju Gahz’rilla in Zul’Farrak-Water, and Prince Sarsarun in AQ20-Air. These guys drop free 251 gear (ICC10 equivalent).
Tis the beginning of the end. The Cataclysm is upon us all….
Phase 1 is pretty simple. It has just one quest chain, and one achievement. And despite that it is still a pain. =/
I’m not going to go too in depth with the quest, its average difficulty, nothing you’re going to break a sweat over, nothing you’ll have to run too far for. I won’t ruin it by giving out details, but to begin, you start by picking up “Prophecies of Doom” from Blood Guard Torek in Orgrimmar. If you can’t find him, he’s beside the bonfire between the Auction House and Bank.
The Achievement is another matter. Basically to earn “Tripping the Rift”, you need to kill each of the 4 elemental types. The achievement counts as a Feat of Strength, and awards no achievement points. Killing each one will give you a specific buff which is what is actually counting toward the achievement. You don’t need to have each of these buffs at the same time, and in fact trying to do so… well, you would have to be very lucky indeed. You can kill these elementals in any zone you happen to see them and still get the buff regardless of level. The first time you kill them, they will give you a daily quest which awards coin/xp. You can only get the daily quest if you kill elementals appropriate to your level. Now, the hard part….
There are a myriad of locations where these guys can spawn. What I’m listing is just what I found in Northrend. And though some claim the spawn is every hour, I’ve not seen anything that proves this theory. It will probably take you about 4 hours to complete this none the less, unless you are very lucky. Wowhead lists a lot of locations for each elemental type, so you will probably be doing a bit of flying around searching. A lot of the posts had locations that were a bit difficult to follow specifically, so I wrote down my own times and coordinates where I picked these up from. Don’t follow these specifically, the events are still random. For instance while I did get a kill @ Agmar’s Hammer close to an hour after the last one despawned there, I went back exactly an hour later and nothing was there. The Dragonblight and Storm Peaks locations seem to have a pretty steady spawn area. I actually camped these 2 coordinates and got the rifts as they came up. While I did find rifts at the other 2 locations, I didn’t camp them. The times I found these is Australian Eastern Standard time, all pm. Hopefully this will help you get the achievement in less time that it took me.
Zul’Drak 4:33 – Fire Elementals 62, 66
Storm Peaks 5:20 – Earth Elementals 35, 82
Dragonblight 6:14 – Water Elementals 35, 47 (this is inside the Horde base)
Sholazar Basin 7:07 – Wind Elementals 62, 77 (I also saw some around 4:40 pm but did not record the coords and they despawned before I got the buff, more’s the pity or would have been done an hour earlier)
If you want to see a list of more locations, check the Wowhead thread here http://www.wowhead.com/achievement=4887#comments:id=1081399
If you want to see what the buffs are, or are looking for some insight to whats coming up, check here http://www.wowpedia.org/Elemental_invasion
Thanks Gortia and Daylimu for the links ❤
So after a few days of this, and 5 toons later, I belive I actually have it worked out, and can cut a lot of time off this. The rifts spawn every 50 minutes, and will remain up for the next 10 minutes unless other players kill the mobs and close them. The best way I found to do this is first, check the timer on wintergrasp. If it is in progress or has less then an hour to go, start off in Storm Peaks. If its 1-2 hours go for SB. The above coord’s are correct still. Basically camp one of those 2 spots until they spawn. Once they’re dead, make a bee-line to the next one without wasting any time…
SP -> ZD
SB -> DB
Unless people are at the second one closing it, you can probably make both within the 10 minutes. I suggest SB > DB > SP > ZD myself as SP tends to be the most camped, at least on our server.
To add for the Ally’s, I didn’t write down the location but you can find them in the Ruby Dragonflight area.
If you’re 60 – 70 (as my pally was 65 when I did this)
Netherstorm: 30, 64 next to Area52 (Wind)
Nagrand: 33, 41 (Earth)
Zangarmarsch: 46, 60 (Water)
Hellfire P. : in Falconwatch. (Fire)
From wowhead, they all worked fine.

A guild mate asked me about a list of things that were going away with cata. I’m not going to pretend this is a full list, in fact I’ve yet to see one that is recent and confirmed. So I will try to put together the best list that I can from what I know.
For a start, I found this site http://senilityguild.com/judgmental/201 … h-in-cata/. Its as good a place as any to start. Some of these in fact have already been taken out, like the weapon skills.
* Zul’Gurub is now a Feat of Strength.
* Deadliest Catch is now a Feat of Strength.
* Hero of the Zandalar Tribe is now a Feat of Strength.
* Master of Arms is now a Feat of Strength.
* Did Somebody Order a Knuckle Sandwich? is now a Feat of Strength.
* The Undying is now a Feat of Strength.
* The Immortal is now a Feat of Strength.
* He Feeds On Your Tears (10 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
* He Feeds On Your Tears (25 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
* Champion of Ulduar is now a Feat of Strength.
* Conqueror of Ulduar is now a Feat of Strength.
* A Tribute to Skill (10 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
* A Tribute to Mad Skill (10 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
* A Tribute to Insanity (10 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
* A Tribute to Dedicated Insanity is now a Feat of Strength.
* A Tribute to Skill (25 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
* A Tribute to Mad Skill (25 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
* A Tribute to Insanity (25 player) is now a Feat of Strength.
With Cata will come the removal of ZG as a raid instance, this is most definitely confirmed (as are the following 3 removals). This means a couple things overall.
*last chance to get the ZG Tiger mount.
*last chance to get the ZG Raptor mount.
*last chance to get the Razzashi Raptor pet.
According to MMO-champion the tome of polymorph turtle will be moved elsewhere, but where has not been announced at this time.
Something else not on this list is the effects of the Feat of Strength Insane in the Membrane. From what I understand from questions asked by a beta tester at Blizzcon (and a slight misquote from GC), one of the reputations for this FoS is being removed from Dire Maul. The Shen’dralar rep. There’s nothing to spell out that if you have this reputation you will be able to complete it after the xpac, so my suggestion would be to finish this asap. Alas its far too late in the game to start it if you’ve not already.
Contrary to belief, Loremaster does not appear to be being removed. However, it will be heavily effected with the coming of the xpac. If you have it, or have not started it, you will be unaffected. If you are working on it however be advised that any quests you have completed, which will be deleted in the xpac, will be deleted from your total as well.
The same holds true for exploration achievements. Outlands and Northrend should remain completely unchanged afaik.
The Blue Drake that currently drops from the bag after completing a random Occulus, will be returning back to its home of Malygos 10 man, the Azure Drake will remain Maly 25.
Apparently the AQ quest chain (old Scepter/AQ gate chain) is also retiring in the xpac.
I have some achievement whore mates on another server, I’ll be asking them as well if there is anything they know that can be added to this list. And of course if you know of something I missed please post to let people know!!
