Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead is a short 2 day celebration that takes place in game November 1st and 2nd. It takes its roots from the Mexican celebration called the same, or Día de los Muertos, which is a celebration of the deceased. Its common symbols include sugar skulls, bread of the dead (pan de muerto), and Marigolds. Among other symbols.

The 2 day in game celebration features 1 achievement and 1 quest. Both can be completed in the same place. Outside of each of the major faction cities and Shattrath in the graveyards, and inside Dalaran in the graveyard.

The achievement is simple, locate Catrina and /dance with her. That’s it. And you get turned into an undead for 12 hours.

The quest is far more complicated. Start by purchasing the recipe for bread of the dead from the vendor in the graveyard, (You can learn it at level 1 cooking, so don’t sweat over cooking skill) and either a marigold, or bouquet of marigolds.. Obtain some simple flour and milk, it takes 1 of each to make the bread. Go back to the graveyard of choice and look for a small brazier with blue fire, this is where you have to bake the bread. Next use your marigold. This enables you to see the spirits. Talk to the Cheerful Spirit, the quest ‘The Grateful Dead’ should be available. Accept it. For my Blood Elf Paladin I accepted this outside of Orgrimmar, the quest sent me to Dalaran to complete it. I’m only 65 but luckily my hearth is set there, so if you’re a low level you might need a Mage, or a Warlock to summon you to complete this. The reward is a Macabre Marionette, which is a small skeleton pet that carries around some Maracas. The pet does not get learned and takes up a spot in your inventory. It disappears after the event is over. Its also worth noting that this seems to be only completable once. I did the quest on my Shaman main last year, and despite making the bread and checking in both in Dalaran and the troll (my race) outside of Orgrimmar, the quest was not available. Quite lame for a reward you don’t get to even keep. Hopefully Blizzard will remedy this in the future.
